Thomas E. Dowler, passed away March 26, 2020 at the age of 72.
Born in Ravenna, Ohio, he grew up in Cuyahoga Falls, and resided in Akron, Ohio for the better part of his life. Tom graduated from St Vincent High School in 1965,…. attended Kent State University before enlisting in the Army. Thomas, a Vietnam Veteran, proudly served in the US Army between 1967 and 1970. After fulfilling his service commitment Tom worked for the Ohio Bell Telephone Co. and retired after 30 years’ service. While employed he had the opportunity to attend The University of Akron and earned an Associate Degree in Electronics. After retirement Tom returned to Kent State University and earning a BA in Business Administration.
Tom enjoyed hiking and biking in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park so much, he volunteered at the park on the bike patrol group and later at the Boston Store. Tom loved reading books, antique car shows, riding steam engine trains, browsing antique shops, refinishing old furniture, building train layouts and collecting many model cars.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents Nelson and Helen (Burch) Dowler. He leaves behind to mourn his loss, the love of his life for 37 years, Stephanie (Buzzelli), sister-in-law Rita (Dennis) Klein, nieces, Missy (Todd) Dreisbach, Valerie (Dave) Sherman, great nieces, Haley and Taryn Dreisbach, great nephews, Jackson and Leo Dengg, his Aunt Ora Cantor, many cousins, friends and his long time friend since 1st grade Tom Ciccarelli.
The family would like to thank his aides Cheryl, Stephanie, Mary and RoseAnn for the care and friendship given while he was home. Thank you to the VA Hospital Intensive Care unit for the care and kindness shown him till the end.
Also surviving him is his daughter, Mary Nime, son, Thomas, 6 grandchildren, brother, Nick (Pam), niece, Christy and nephew, Michael.
The family will receive friends and family for Tom and mother-in-law, Carolyn Buzzelli from 9 to 10 am at Blessed Trinity Church, 300 E. Tallmadge Ave. on Saturday, July 31, 2021. A Celebration of life and memorial mass will begin at 10:00 am. Following the mass, Carolyn Buzzelli will be taken to Holy Cross Cemetery.
Inurment for Tom will take place on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at 1:45 pm. at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Seville, Ohio.
