Arthur Sunday Obituary

Arthur Dominic Sunday, age 94, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. Arthur was born on September 16, 1928 in Akron, Ohio. He was a lifelong resident of Akron, where he was self-employed for 70 years. He was the owner/operator of the President’s Lounge for the past 45 years, and the Roosevelt Café prior to that, where he started tending bar at age 22. Art was a man of great faith and a member of Saint Anthony of Padua Parish in Akron. He was stationed in Germany during the Korean War as a member of the US Army. A loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and brother, Arthur “Papa” was known for his vibrant compassion, generosity, and warm personality. He was an avid fan of the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians (Guardians) and New York Yankees. He sponsored several bus trips to the Indians and Browns games while operating the Roosevelt Café and President’s Lounge. Arthur and his late wife Virginia supported several charities in the Akron area, including the American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association, and the Akron Children’s Hospital Foundation. He had fond memories of spending time with friends and family at the Turkeyfoot Island Club.

Arthur was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Mary Sunday, his loving wife Virginia (Mimi), his sisters Antoinette (Pat) Saccogna, Rose (Marvin) Ford brother Edmund (Agnes) Sunday and dear sister-in-law Ida (Jerome) Gradisher. He is survived by his children Arthur P (Cynthia) Sunday, Valerie (Richard)Humphrey, Robert (Karen) Sunday, Gia (Gino) D ‘Andrea, grandchildren Katie Sunday (Sameer Dohadwala), Matthew Sunday, Megan (Michael)Noeller, Guilianna D’Andrea, Mario D’Andrea, Christopher D’Andrea and Alexandra (Jason) Guba. He also leaves behind several relatives and friends, along with numerous life-long friends at the President’s Lounge and around the Akron area. The family is gracious for and wishes to thank Dr. Joseph Pietrolungo from Summa Health and the nurses and staff of Cleveland Clinic Hospice for their compassionate care.
