Stella Margaret Kunkler, 86, of Stow passed away June 5, 2017, surrounded by her loving family.
Stella was born in Akron on April 9th, 1931, to William and Julia (Berardi) Judge. She graduated from North High School in 1949.
Stella was well known for her extremely active spirit. She was a charter member of the Silver Lake Country Club (SLCC) where she enjoyed many years of golf and social gatherings. She also played golf with many area groups, including the Daffy Duffers. Stella was an avid bridge player at both the Cuyahoga Falls Women’s Club and SLCC. She loved spending time with her many friends, sharing countless meals and laughs with her Wednesday Morning Breakfast Gang and Friday Dinner Group at SLCC. She also had an immense passion for singing. She was instrumental in establishing the St. Vincent's Adult Choir and was an active member for 46 years, and was also a member of the Ravenna Choir. Stella was a devoted volunteer at St. Thomas Hospital and was involved in the founding of Tarry House. She was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes football fan and frequently attended games for over 50 years.
Stella was preceded in death by her husband Paul Joseph Kunkler, her son Paul Matthew Kunkler, her brothers Dennis and Michael Judge, and sister and brother-in-law Fran and Bill Nelson. She is survived by her son Stuart (Michelle) of Cincinnati; daughter Margaret (Mark) Miller of Chicago; and grandchildren Allie and Anne Kunkler; Jake Michalak; and Delaney and Auden Miller. She also leaves her sister and brother-in-law Ranna and Bob Sullivan of Sun City, Arizona, as well as many nieces and nephews including Terry (Louise) Means of Tennessee; and Mary Means of Cuyahoga Falls.
She will be remembered for her love, devotion, and thoughtfulness towards her family and friends, her fearless spirit, her beautiful singing voice, and her undying will to make every day more lively than the last.
Calling Hours will be from 5-7 pm Friday, June 16th at Hennessy Funeral Home, 522 N. Main St., Akron.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, June 17th at 10 am at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 164 W. Market St., Akron. Burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery, Northfield.
